NEW ORLEANS DANCE WEEK BRINGS FREE DANCE EVENTS, $5 CLASSES, AND A NATIONAL DANCE DAY CELEBRATION TO NEW ORLEANS!
NEW ORLEANS, LA— The New Orleans Dance Network is hosting the 3rd annual New Orleans Dance Week with exciting new events and activities for all ages leading up to National Dance Day. The celebration has three central components:
$5 Class Challenge – July 17-28
10 dance programs across the city are offering $5 adult classes for two weeks leading up to National Dance Day. Classes are available for all levels in a wide range of genres, including African, ballet, belly dance, bounce, contemporary, hip hop, salsa, swing, and more. Adults that take class at 5 or more studios over the course of the two weeks will be entered in a raffle to win dance prizes such as free class packages and merchandise.
Participating programs include: Crescent Lotus Dance Studio; Liquid Rhythms Inc. Salsa; Dancing Grounds; The Moe Joe Gallery “Home of Bounce Fitness with Moe Joe”; Live Oak Dance; Dance Quarter; New Orleans Dance Academy; Artivism Dance Theatre at the Art Klub; Spotlight Dance NOLA; Crescent City Swing at the Rhythmic Arts Center; Mélange Dance Company at Broadmoor Arts and Wellness Studio; N’Fungola Sibo West African Dance at NORDC Stallings Center.
Tour De Dance – July 22-29
New Orleans dance fans can tour the city throughout the week, visiting different dance venues offering performances, workshops, and socials in Salsa, Swing, Burlesque, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Bounce Fest and more! A full event schedule is listed below.
National Dance Day Second Line and Flash Mob – July 29, 10am-1pm
Dancers of all ages will gather in the French Quarter at a location to be disclosed to learn the National Dance Day flash mob choreography, parade to Jackson Square, and perform together. Participants can learn choreography in advance: http://dizzyfeetfoundation.org/national-dance-day/
National Dance Day was created by So You Think You Can Dance producer and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe. This grassroots campaign encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity.
New Orleans Dance Week is being orchestrated by the New Orleans Dance Network (NODN), an organization formed in January 2015 to promote the visibility and viability of dance in the greater New Orleans area. NODN has organized dance week in coalition with five key partners: Dancing Grounds, The Moe Joe Gallery, Crescent Lotus Dance Studio, Liquid Rhythm Inc., and Live Oak Dance LLC.
